HOW TO TREAT DEPRESSION & ANXIETY NATURALLY

Hey lovies! Deep conversation today…lets talk about how to treat/manage depression and anxiety. The United States has more people popping depression and anxiety medication then anywhere else in the world. The way medication is handed out like candy without first trying to determine what natural remedies can be used is alarming in my opinion.

When I was told that I am “depressed” and have an anxiety disorder I didn’t think much of it since a lot of people that were around me were on medication as well. However, months into taking the medication I felt detached from the world, my kids and myself. Not the way I wanted to live my life. Luckily I had a moment of clarity that led me to realize my life was really in my control. I didn’t have to be on medication and there were natural alternatives.

Natural Depression Remedies

1. Eat Healthy

Eating healthy will not only make you feel good about yourself for making healthy choices for yourself. However, there are also certain foods that act a serotonin booster and support optimal brain health. Some of these foods include:

• Fish oil, Omega-3 fatty acids

• Healthy fats such as avocado, coconut oil, flaxseed oil

• Raw nuts and seeds

In addition to the healthy fats, make sure you are eating the rainbow…fruits and vegetables of all kinds and often. Avoid processed foods, trans-fats, and foods with artificial coloring. All of while negatively affect the brain and body. Do not self medicate with drugs, nicotine and alcohol. It just makes things worse.

2. Exercise

Like healthy eating, everyone always feels better after a good workout. After you finish exercising your body releases endorphins that make you feel good. That doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym for 2 hours. You can work out at home for 30 minutes or so, light cardio or lifting weights will give you the boost you need.

3. Meditate & Breath Work

Taking time to sit quietly will give you the opportunity to disconnect from the chaos of the world. Mindful breathing literally forces you to forget whatever has made you upset and focus on the flow of your breath. You can’t be sad and focus on the beauty of your breath at the same time. It forces you to become aware of the depth of your breath, the sound and the feeling. All things many people take for granted, what a beautiful gift we have right before us?

If you have trouble concentrating while meditating (my issue when I first started) try starting with guided meditations on YouTube…that’s what I did. I have been able to completely reprogram my mind and cultivate awareness with guided meditations.

4. Drink Chamomile and Lavender Tea

Whenever I feel like an anxiety attack is coming on I reach for my Traditional Medicinals organic chamomile and lavender tea. I drink 2-3 mugs of tea until I feel like my symptoms have subsided. Additionally I focus on mindful breathing in order to disengage from whatever has caused me to become anxious.

5. Decide you want to live differently

I know that the doctors shove us meds and therapist try their best to help people who have difficult emotions. However, the most important thing we need to realize is we have a choice to live a life that is happy. Not weighted down by depression and anxiety.

6. Get out of the situation that triggers depression & anxiety

Depression an anxiety reared its ugly head due to me being in a toxic relationship. I knew that if I wanted to get better, I had to get out. So regardless if its a romantic relationship, friendship, family member, career choice etc....whatever is causing you to be unhappy you have the power to remove yourself. Additionally...get yourself some positive friends and people that encourage you to be better, do better and become great! If you don't have that kind of tribe around you, pray for better people to come into your life.
