Avocado - Health & Beauty Benefits

Are you crazy about avocados? If not, I really want you to be! The other day I was having a really busy morning AND we were in serious need of a grocery store haul. While getting ready I thought to myself “oh crap, I need to eat something!” The trusty avocado you see here was such an easy…and healthy choice.

Health & Beauty Benefits in ABUNDANCE

Lets just keep it real, we all want to look and feel beautiful and usually we are willing to pay lots of cash for products in order to achieve beauty. Eating avocado regularly is one really easy (and inexpensive) way to increase you health and beauty.

The Benefits:

  • The potent antioxidant content in avocado helps neutralize free radicals that are important for fighting early aging. The Vitamin E content helps to keep your skin plump and youthful.

  • The oil extracted is widely used in preparation of beauty products. These include creams, cleansers and moisturizers to prevent the ageing effect of dehydration; bath oils, shampoos, scalp conditioner and hair tonic.

  • The high potassium and folate content in avocado helps to regulate blood pressure, protecting your body against circulatory diseases like, heart problems and stroke.

  • An avocado contains oleic and linoleic acids that are effective in lowering the LDL cholesterol and increasing the healthy HDL cholesterol.

  • Avocado aids in improving eyesight and prevent eye problems like astigmatism, cataracts and glaucoma.

  • The high folate content is very beneficial for healthy fetal cell and tissue development.

  • Regular consumption of avocados strengthens the body’s immune system.

  • Studies have proven that when even a small amount of avocado is consumed together with other fruits and vegetables, the absorption of phytonutrients are a few times higher than when consumed on its own.

  • Consumption of the high-potassium content fruit helps to reduce urinary calcium excretion, lowering the risk of stones forming in the kidney.

  • The vitamin B6 helps relieve nausea and queasiness associated with pregnancy.

  • The high potassium content helps balance our body’s electrolytes, aids muscle activity, nerve function and energy metabolism.

  • The avocado oil is beneficial in the treatment of psoriasis. The oil contained in avocados aid in providing suppleness and moisture to the skin. Can be applied topically as well.

  • The avocado a natural mouthwash and a remedy for bad breath. It is effective in removing intestinal putrefactions or decomposition, which are the real cause of a coated tongue and this unpleasant condition.

How to eat them:

Cut avocado in half, squeeze lemon juice over and add salt and pepper to taste

Cut avocado into slices or chunks and add to a salad

Blend avocado flesh in a high-powered blender and enjoy as a pasta sauce OR sandwich spread

Add slices of avocado to your favorite sandwich combination

Add ½ avocado to your green smoothie (or other smoothie) – this aid in the absorption of other nutrients in the smoothie and adds creaminess

Banana – Avo Ice Cream. 1 banana, 1 avocado and a little bit of almond milk. Blend til smooth and enjoy. *Thanks to my good friend Jaimee for this recipe!
