DIY- Bentonite Clay Facial Mask

Pampering with a purpose today!

Get ready for some serious relaxation and skin detoxification. Yogurt applied directly to the skin has a long list a benefits: and by it combining this Peppermint Cooling Mask from B. Rich Nautrals (super awesome NON-TOXIC biodegradable skin care line) we are knocking out a ton of skin concerns.…lets discuss the stars of this mask combination!

Organic Greek Yogurt Benefits:

Yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that helps to buff dull dry skin and prevent premature aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Lactic acid helps to dissolve dead skin that builds in our pores, causing a dry and dull appearance. It also aids in closing large pores, making skin look younger.

Acne-prone skin (raises hand) can benefit from yogurt; it has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is also rich in zinc, which is known to help heal acne blemishes. Yogurt naturally kills impurities that lead to breakouts, keeping the skin looking beautiful and blemish free.

Those looking to improve the appearance of uneven skin can benefit from the mild bleaching affect of yogurt. It aids in evening out the skin tone (blotchiness and acne scars).

Bentonite Clay

Like yogurt, Bentonite Clay also helps fight acne and blemish prone skin. When mixed with water and yogurt and applied to the skin its molecules become charged and draw out impurities and toxins from the skin.

The clay also aids in reducing the appearance of swelling. Botanical.com reports that bentonite clay "swells open like a highly porous sponge," sucking up water, binding to excess sodium and eliminating toxins. The clay can be applied to cuts, bruises, insect bites, bee stings, boils, rashes, achy joints, acne, and burns. The tremendous healing properties aids in healing these common ailments.

Bentonite clay aids in shrinking pores, tightening and toning skin, removing impurities, buffing off dead skin cells, and helping your skin have an overall flawless appearance. It can also be used directly on pimples to reduce their size and irritation due to inflammation.

Getting Started - What You Need

Although this mask has a hint of peppermint, you can always use a combination just using the clay and water or using a combination of the clay and yogurt.

  • Gather the ingredients above and get ready for some relaxation. I have a citrus chamomile tea here, use whatever tea you prefer. Be sure to put your hair back and add a scarf or headband. And if you want to be extra sexy with it, light a candle :)

  • Mix clay and yogurt together until each ingredient is completely blended together. If you use the B. Rich Naturals packet use ½ the pack of clay, makes enough for 2 applications. The consistency will look like this (image on the right).

Apply mask you your face liberally and relax for 20 minutes.

Once finished, rinse the mask from your face using lukewarm water and pat dry. Your skin should feel firm, clean and smooth. The peppermint essential oil and leaf gave my skin a tingling clean feeling during and after my facial treatment.

In the after photo above you can see a little redness around the outside of my face. That is because of the lactic acid in the Greek yogurt. This is actually a good thing. Lactic acid helps reduce the appearance of aging, improves uneven skin...its the same stuff that you will find in chemical peels. Just not as strong. After about 15 minutes the redness went away and I moisturized with Organic Coconut oil.
